DC Ranch Setting
DC Ranch now encompasses approximately 3,700 developable acres and offers a vantage point from which to take in the McDowell Mountains, Pinnacle Peak, and panoramic views of the city below. There's a strong sense of the past here, as seen in ancient petroglyphs, old gold mines and cowboy trails. To reflect and pay homage to this character, the DC Ranch of today features the use of split-rail fences, natural rock fences and other thematic materials.
In olden times, there were four significant vegetation zones at DC Ranch rising from the desert floor up to an altitude of about 4,000 feet above sea level: lower desert, upper desert, grassland/chaparral, and riparian. While the riparian level is now part of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve, landscaping guidelines for all homeowners, businesses and public properties respond to these naturally occurring vegetation zones so the balance, diversity and naturalness of DC Ranch's plant palette are maintained.
Thousands of preserved cacti and other desert flora grace the landscape thanks to the most extensive native plant salvage program in Scottsdale. Many native plants saved from the site have been replanted in the street medians to provide the community with a mature feeling even in its relative infancy. Stone walls and monuments are crafted from rock that is indigenous to the site and reflects the surrounding area. Everything is in keeping with an enduring heritage as you make this place your own.
DC Ranch Amenities
Most everything for everyday life will be provided for within the community. Planned amenities include a K-8 school campus that will have room for expansion (be it additional K-8 capacity or the possible addition of grades 9-12, depending on future needs), grocery, dining, retail shops, business offices, medical buildings, and places of worship. As a result, you are free to go beyond the mere business of living and spend more time exploring life in all its glory, a life based on enduring values and a commitment to all that is possible.
In fact, commitment is at the very core of the DC Ranch vision. Health and wellness, for example, are encouraged by way of a pioneering alliance with Scottsdale Healthcare in addition to wellness activities and the teaching of sports that can be pursued and enjoyed throughout life. There is a dedication to education and lifelong learning, too, with a wide variety of offerings planned for the future. In reality, the entire community is a learning environment, with your very own community center, Desert Camp, ably serving as an anchor supported by The Country Club. places of worship, and neighboring venues.
This learning environment is supported in great measure by DC Ranch's approach to technology - technology as a means of helping people to identify common interests, get acquainted, and stay connected. Here, technology is an enabler, a spark that allows you and your neighbors to make things happen. Our community technology provides the tools you need to start up activities of your very own. You may well find yourself engaging in what others are already doing making DC Ranch a dynamic place to live fueled by the efforts of the many rather than the few.
With neighbors connecting with neighbors, there is also a pledge to shared responsibility, for the differences here at DC Ranch are designed to engender a commitment to citizenship and civic engagement benefiting the individual and the community as a whole. Perhaps nowhere is this more readily seen than in our relationship with our living environment. for the more we learn about the desert ecosystem, the stronger our connection is to life here. Even now just as DC Ranch is taking shape, it is apparent that when one has an appreciation for this extraordinary environment, he or she is inspired to make our community an exceptional place to live. Which is really, in the end, the key to creating a strong and caring community.
Desert Camp features swimming pools, tennis courts. basketball, children's play areas and many other amenities geared toward family recreation. While extensive, these facilities are just the beginning because the parks and recreation staff at DC Ranch tailors classes and activities designed to delight the resident and bring out the true value of these recreational resources. Perhaps you'd like to attend a fitness class of some sort. Maybe your children have reached the age where they would like to learn swimming fundamentals or those of other sports. DC Ranch is committed to creating activities for all to pursue.
What's New at DC Ranch
The DC Ranch community continues to grow, with additions including a par 72 championship golf course under construction, and the new Public Safety Facility, which recently opened. These additions will enhance the community's quality of life by providing recreational opportunities and an increased sense of safety
The golf course will wrap around the majestic McDowell Mountains and is sure to dazzle golfers with its beautiful framed-by-nature city views. It will serve as an amenity within the community, and is scheduled to be completed in fall 2001.
The course, designed by former British Open and USGA Senior Open champion Tom Weiskopf, will offer golfers a dynamic and varied experience. The 18 hole course takes full advantage of the spectacular views at DC Ranch.
This course has always been planned to be an integral part of the community. By providing open space and a recreational components, it adds to DC Ranch's diversity, says Charley Freericks, DC Ranch Vice President and General Manager.
The Public Safety Facility, a round-the-clock police and fire facility at 20355 N. Pima Road south of Market Street, includes Rural Metro Fire Station #816. The station occupies about 2,580 square feet for the living quarters and 4,300 square feet for the bay. The bay will store up to three emergency response vehicles including an engine, an ambulance, and a brush truck, which will be used primarily for wild and land fires. The station will handle fire and ambulance service for emergency and non-emergency calls, and will advise and assist residents on safety and wellness issues. Three full-time firefighters/paramedics will be on duty at all times.
Assistant Chief of Fire Operations Steve Randall will head up the division. He has been with Rural Metro for 20 years. He joined the department directly from high school as a firefighter and worked his way up the ranks to captain, battalion chief, and now, assistant chief.
The Public Safety Facility will also include a police building that will be approximately 9,300 square feet. A variety of protective and informational services will be offered, including personal safety classes that will teach residents about crime prevention, and periodic security surveys that will keep residents up-to-date with developments in the area. The Scottsdale Police Department has set up a Block Watch Advisory Council that will help residents organize neighborhood block watch groups.
Captain David Marshall has been assigned as district commander of the District 3 station and will be joined by additional officer and sergeant support. Captain Marshall has worked for the Scottsdale Police department since 1976. Like Assistant Chief Randall, he rose in the ranks at the department. When he was sergeant, Captain Marshall supervised detectives for almost three years. Prior to that, he spent four years as a detective. He also has worked for the Flagstaff Police Department and Rural Metro.

Since the community opened, multiple builders in the DC Ranch Collection of Homes have sold out their products. In 2000, Standard Pacific Homes sold out its single-family homes, as did Camelot Homes. Geoffrey H. Edmunds sold out its attached villas and its remaining single-family product.
Builders are debuting new offerings for those eager to enjoy the DC Ranch experience. In 2000, Camelot Homes and Columbia Communities started selling attached villas, and the P.B. Bell Companies began leasing luxury rentals. Custom homes and home sites have experiences equal success, with two new custom home neighborhoods debuting in late 2000.

The attached units will be conveniently adjacent to
